Welcoming Reception for Queen's Baton

The Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton has reached Brunei as part of its ambitious 388-day journey across all 70 nations and territories in the Commonwealth covering 230,000 kilometres, the longest relay in Commonwealth Games history. A welcoming reception for the Queen's Baton was held yesterday at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner in Jalan Kota Batu.
In attendance was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The Australian High Commissioner to the Country, Her Excellency Nicola Rosenblum, in her welcoming remarks said the Queens' Baton Relay will contribute to the extraordinary events of the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne.
Tomorrow morning, the Baton relay will incorporate athletes from a wide range of sports as well government officials, teachers and students. The Queen's Baton Relay will proceed through the streets of Bandar Seri Begawan, crossing the new Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge and Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas. From Brunei, the baton will depart for Singapore this Wednesday. The Commonwealth Games will be held in Australia in April next year.
