A quarrel between two men resulted in the killing of a 15-year-old boy and serious injuries to his three-year-old sister who was left fighting for her life in the hospital.
The incident stemmed from a heated argument between the father of the two children and a co-worker at a construction site. Both men are foreigners and working for a construction company.
The co-worker who was still angry after the argument later went to the victims’ home at Kampung Lukok in Kiulu around 2.20 pm but was told by the boy that his father was not at home.
The man then vented his anger on the boy by slashing his neck with a sharp object, believed to be a machete, before attacking the boy’s little sister.
Tuaran police chief DSP Dzulbaharin bin Hj Ismail said that following the incident, police arrested the suspect at the roadside not far from the scene at about 4pm the same day.
“Police immediately launched a manhunt and in less than two hours we managed to apprehend the suspect along the road leading to Kampung Lukok in Kiulu on the same day,” Dzulbaharin said yesterday.
The 66-year-old suspect was detained for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
