The National Day is a great and very special day for a country. According to the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, in the context of Brunei Darussalam as an Islamic Malay Monarchy and Zikir nation, celebrating the National Day is full of blessings and significant, creating history and oral tradition through a mass gathering of all communities in a Grand Assembly of the country's people. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof spoke during the 1st Meeting of the 34th National Day Celebration Executive Committee yesterday morning. Yang Berhormat added the celebration is also an expression of undivided loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam that reflects national solidarity and resilience.

The Minister then highlighted that the 'backbone' of such a celebration is the expenditure. The Minister stressed it was vital to continue such austerity measures to ensure there would be no wastage and proper attention could be given to the wellbeing of the participants. Yang Berhormat also emphasised the matter required wisdom, cooperation and the respect towards financial regulations of all the Working Committees.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports also outlined the importance of the makeup of participants and performances during the National Day grand assembly. Yang Berhormat said priority should be given to the participation of youths to showcase activity and involvement as well as their innovation as the future generation that would lead the nation to the pinnacle of glory and excellence. Today's meeting was also attended by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istadat Negara.
