KUALA LUMPUR

Budget 2018 announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the Dewan Rakyat last Friday has given special benefits to the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

According to Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the total allocation approved for the ministry in the Budget 2018 was RM9.483 billion, an increase of 6.66 per cent (RM0.592 billion) from the 2017 allocation of RM8.891 billion.

“Through the Budget announcement we can see that Sabah and Sarawak have the largest allocation.

“The Budget 2018 has maintained the focus of rural development in the states of Sabah and Sarawak with a total allocation of RM927.635 million (23.98%) and RM1.103 billion (28.52%) respectively or 52.50 per cent of the total allocation for KKLW,” he said in a special media briefing on the budget at KKLW headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

He noted that the KKLW is allocated RM934 million for rural road projects including almost RM500 million for the states of Sabah and Sarawak.

“For rural electricity supply, RM672 million is allocated and this includes RM620 million for both states involving 10,000 units of rural housing.

“For rural water supply, RM420 is allocated and of that amount, almost RM300 million for Sabah and Sarawak to provide for clean water supply covering 3,000 housing units,” he said.

He added Budget 2018 covers all factors including infrastructure, economy, housing and education, which showed that the government gives special attention to the rural community.
