Girl Guides Day Celebration

Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam has consented to attend the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association's Girls Guides Day 2017. During the event Her Majesty also consented to present the Girl Guides Day 2017 Special Awards and Certificates of Appreciation as well as the Long Service Badge to members of the association. The ceremony took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas this afternoon.
Upon arrival, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri as the Royal Patron of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association was welcomed by Dayang Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim, the association's Chief Commissioner and members of the celebration's Committee and lifelong Vice-Presidents of the association. Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi'atul Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah;
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna.
The event began with the reading of Surah Al-fatihah and doa kesyukuran by Dayang Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abd Ghani, the Spiritual Commissioner of the association. The Chief Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association in her welcoming address explained the association activities plan for 2017.
During the ceremony, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri consented to present the Girl Guides Day 2017 Special Awards for continuous services in religion, international and community activities. The Special Award for contributions in international activities was presented to Dayang Hajah Viviyanti binti Haji Ali, the Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association. The award for religious activities was awarded to Dayang Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abd Ghani, the association's Spiritual Commissioner, while Dayang Hajah Ma'ani binti Haji Lamat, the Assistant Chief Commissioner received the community services award.
Meanwhile, 3 members of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association who have served continuously and been active in the association for 20 and 10 years received the Gold and Bronze Long Service Badges. The Gold Long Service Badge was awarded to Dayang Kaniz binti Abdul Shakoor, the association's Activities and International Secretary and Dayang Damit binti Mohd Salleh, the Girl Guides Association's Commissioner for Tutong District. Meanwhile, the Bronze Long Service Badge was received by Dayang Norasimah binti Haji Salleh, the Girl Guides Association's Assistant Commissioner for Belait District.
Three project coordinators and two Girl Guide leaders who ran the Green Fingers project received the Award of Excellence for the Green Fingers Project. The climax of the celebration was Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri consenting to cut Her Majesty's birthday cake. Her Majesty also received a Pesambah from the event's Committee.
The Girl Guides Day was held to celebrate Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri's birthday and to express the members of the association's appreciation to Her Majesty for Her Majesty's great care and concern to the wellbeing and development of the association. Besides that the celebration also manifested the member's loyalty and support to the association as well as fostering better relations.
Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri later consented to view a mini exhibition of the Green Fingers Project of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association. The project is a long-term project and a continuation of the earlier Service to the Earth Project organised by the association. The project is specifically for Girl Guides teams and Girl Guide Rangers at colleges, Sixth Form Centres and secondary schools. 60 Girl Guides from seven secondary schools in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong Districts took part in the project. The project was filled with small scale and organic tree planting, flower, fruits and herbs gardening activities. Apart from that the project also maximised the Girl Guides and Girl Guide Rangers activities in planting and gardening activities as way of developing their skills and bringing them closer to nature, recycling or imparting gardening skills from experienced members to youth members. The project was conducted in phases and will continue to be carried out by Girl Guides and Girl Guide Rangers from six selected schools. Proceeds from the sale of the farm or garden produce will be used for Girl Guide activities in the country and abroad.
Formed in 1951, the association has more than one thousand eight hundred members nationwide. The Girl Guides Association is taking strategic measures to enable it to fulfil demands at the national, regional and international levels in line with changing times and methods.
