IBTE, Velosi Brunei Signed MoU on Welding Programme

 May 5th, 2016  |  05:05 AM  |   1723 views

BRUNEI-MUARA

The Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) signed a contract with Velosi Brunei, further enhancing mutual cooperation.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was held at the Longhouse Training Restaurant at IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College (MTSSR) Campus in Jalan Muara with the aim of having both parties collaborating to share information and educational materials and provide training in welding quality inspection and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), coaching in 'quality management systems and HSSE awareness'.

Since early 2013, Velosi has provided assistance in providing a trained instructor to teach students undertaking welding and fabrication courses in the IBTE-MTSSR Campus.

Signing the MoU on behalf of IBTE was Awang Norjemee bin Jenek, principal of IBTE Satellite Campus while the signatory for Velosi was its general manager, Awang Haji Rosli bin Haji Daud.

On hand to witness the signing was the guest of honour, Habib Mohammad bin Haji Wan Junaidi, deputy chief executive officer (academic) of IBTE.

In his speech, Habib Mohammad conveyed his appreciation to Haji Rosli for attending the important event.

"The agreement is another collaboration with the private sector, something IBTE has been actively working towards since its formation two years ago. IBTE sincerely welcomes and acknowledges the memorandum as a significant step towards marking a new chapter in the close relationship between both organisations," he said.

"The outlook for the welding industry is good as it continues to be a highly efficient and economical method for maintaining structural integrity when joining metals and non-metals, including plastics and composites. This reality will continue to provide opportunities for growth in the welding industry."

An expert in welding quality inspections and testing, Velosi will work closely with IBTE to produce a quality welding engineering programme to develop and train students to supply the skilled workforce required in the growing welding industry.

Furthermore, Velosi will provide opportunities for students and staff alike to participate in industrial attachments at the company to further enhance the quality of the course running under IBTE-MTSSR Campus.

The IBTE-MTSSR Campus will be running an NTec welding course starting this July.
