Paul Pogba must 'be consistent for years' to match Gerrard - Rafa Benitez

Paul Pogba impressed on his Manchester United return on Saturday.

MANCHESTER

Paul Pogba must be more consistent with his performances before he can be compared to Steven Gerrard, according to Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez.

Pogba returned to the United team from injury in style on Saturday as he scored one and created another to inspire his side to a 4-1 victory over Benitez's Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Benitez managed Gerrard during his time at Liverpool and says Pogba must perform at the top level for a number of years before being likened to the former England international.

"No, they're different," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports when asked if the two can be compared. "Stevie was a top-class player for so many years.

"He was very consistent and could make the difference in every game, with or without the ball.

"He was a top-class player. Pogba is a great player, but he still has to be consistent for years like Stevie was for 10 or 15 years.

"Pogba is not my player, so I don't need to talk too much about him. He's a great player, like the majority of the Manchester United players."
