Real Madrid To Give Up On David De Gea, Chase Thibaut Courtois Instead

David De Gea's chances of joining Real Madrid appear to be dwindling.

WORLD

With the January window on the horizon, there's plenty brewing in the transfer market. All the latest deals and potential deals can be found here.

David De Gea 'gets Madrid ultimatum'

He was within a whisker of joining Real Madrid in 2015 -- and now it seems as though it's next summer or never if Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is to move to the Bernabeu.

The Mirror, citing reports in Spain, says Madrid president Florentino Perez "has sounded a warning to De Gea" that his club will move for Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois if a transfer cannot be achieved by then.

Madrid have not lost interest in signing Spain international De Gea despite their narrow failure to do so a couple of summers ago.

And the Mirror says Perez has "put a deadline on next summer to get the deal done," with Courtois firmly in their sights.

Recent reports said Chelsea were set to step up talks over a new deal for Courtois amid continuing Madrid speculation.

The Belgium international has less than two years left on his current contract but has indicated that he is content to leave the talking until the end of the season, sparking renewed interest from Madrid.

Martial art changes Mou's plans

Jose Mourinho's transfer thinking has changed, according to the Independent -- and that's due to the form of Anthony Martial.

The Manchester United boss seemed likely to sell Martial in the summer after not playing him regularly last season, but the France international has eight goals already this time around.

The Independent reports that "frustration with Martial's form" was partly behind Mourinho's desire to sign Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic during the summer.

But it adds that such is the turnaround in Martial's performances that there is now "a feeling at United that he could be one of the best players in the world in the next few years, and potentially a star as big as Paul Pogba."

That has "played a part in the cooling of interest in Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann as well as Real Madrid's Gareth Bale."

Hornets boss Silva has Slim hopes

Watford coach Marco Silva could be reunited with one of his former players in January, according to the Mirror.

It reports that Silva is interested in making a loan move for Leicester's record signing Islam Slimani, with whom he worked at Sporting Lisbon.

Slimani cost the Foxes £29m from Sporting but has found regular first-team football hard to come by since arriving in the Midlands.

But the Mirror says a permanent departure from the King Power Stadium remains unlikely because Leicester "would have to take a sizeable hit on their outlay in any straight cash deal."

Tap-ins

- Alan Pardew is back in the game at West Bromwich Albion, and the Birmingham Mail suggests he could soon be signing Liverpool striker Danny Ings on loan.

Pardew was reported to have been interested in Ings during his time at Newcastle, and the Mail says that with the player "almost certain to be made available for loan, he could now rekindle his interest."

- Both Brighton and Southampton are keen on Espanyol striker Leo Baptistao but could face competition from Roma and Genoa, talkSPORT says.

Citing reports in Italy, it adds that the 25-year-old, who has three goals this season, has been tracked by both the Seagulls and the Saints.
