TEMBURONG

The efforts of government agencies to provide aid and the scrutiny on the effects of flood and landslides caused by the recent heavy rains continue.  This morning a delegation from the Ministry of Development lead by the Acting Minister of Development took a closer look at the situation in Temburong District.

Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the Acting Minister of Development visited Kampung Belais, Kampung Batang Duri and Kampung Sibulu which were affected by landslides that caused the villagers to use alternative roads.  Repair works are continuing in the said areas.  The delegation included Doctor Dayang Nor Imtihan bin Haji Abd Razak, the Acting Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development and Awang Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, the Acting Temburong District Officer.

In an interview, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi explained the measures already taken to address the problems in the affected areas.  The Acting Minister of Development said the tour was meant to ensure the safety of the villagers and the roads as well as to identify plans for urgent action as well as the repair and other works needed to be implemented by the ministry in the short and long terms.  Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi added because of the worrying situation, the heavy rain and strong wind that might occur, plans for the short term might be made.  The most important thing was the people's safety as well as access to roads.
