Four Teens among 10 Held for Theft, Gang Robbery

Police detained six men and four teenagers as young as 14 years old for involvement in theft and gang robbery around the district.

 

District police chief ACP Zabidi Md Zain said all 10 individuals aged 14 to 33 who committed robbery by targeting women and students around Indah Town and Kim Fung Town, were arrested this month.

 

“With these arrests and investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department, police have solved five cases, confiscated 13 items as well as a motorcycle and a car used by the robbers.

 

“Further investigation showed that four of the arrested individuals are positive for Methamphetamine.

 

“Therefore, all of them will be charged under Section 379, Section 392, Section 394 and Section 395 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of between seven to 20 years, fine and whipping if convicted,” he said at a press conference after the district level 209th anniversary celebration of Police Day at the Sandakan police station yesterday.

 

In a separate case, police also arrested two suspects aged 18 to 35, believed involved in human trafficking around 10.30pm on Thursday at a budget hotel here.

 

Police detained a man believed to be a pimp at the entrance door of the budget hotel and a woman who is also the caretaker of the premises.

 

Upon inspection, police found two Filipinas aged between 18 to 22 without identification documents, believed to be sex workers.

 

Police had also discovered a used condom, a roll of used tissue, two pieces of torn condom packets and a tube of lubricant.

 

The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 which carries a jail term of not more than 15 years and fine.

 

Meanwhile, at the ceremony, Zabidi also presented appreciation certificates to 59 people comprising of policemen, members of the media, government officers and former policemen.
