BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

To reduce the burden of less capable parents and guardians in buying stationery and other schooling needs of their children, the Ministry of Education through the Miftaahun Najaah Unit of the Department of Schools yesterday afternoon distributed aid under the Miftaahun NajaahSchooling Aid Scheme 2018. Miftaahun Najaah literally means the Key To Success and the aid was given with the hope that all children would have access to education. The scheme is also meant to help children achieve better education and prevent them dropping out of school. The ceremony took place at Dewan Utama of the Ministry of Education's new building.

The assistance was presented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education to representatives from 32 primary schools and involved one thousand, five hundred and twenty two (1,522) pupils. For 2018, thirteen thousand, and forty three (13,043) pupils and students from Year 1 to pre-university are receiving the aid. They comprised of six thousand, eight hundred and forty five (6,845) primary school pupils, six thousand, one hundred and eleven (6,111) secondary school students and 87 pre-university students.

The Miftaahun Najaah Aid Scheme began in 2011. Each government school has a Miftaahun Najaah Scheme Committee which is responsible for distributing assistance to students. For the 2018 school session, the students receive aid in the form of school uniforms, workbooks and are exempted from paying fees. The ceremony was also attended by Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education and Doctor Haji Azman bin Ahmad, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education.
