MANILA, PHILIPPINES
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will have tow trucks and extra personnel on standby in case supporters of losing candidates stage protests and block major thoroughfares after today’s elections.
MMDA chairman Emerson Carlos said he ordered his men to be on alert for rallies that may be staged all over the metropolis.
“Tow trucks would be used to clear thoroughfares of vehicles obstructing traffic flow. Should there be rallies, we will be ready,” said Carlos.
In line with the conduct of national and local elections today, the number coding scheme will be suspended in all cities and municipalities of Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, the MMDA will be deploying more than 2,000 traffic constables to manage vehicular traffic near major polling precincts in the metropolis.
Aside from the polling centers and schools in Metro Manila, Carlos said traffic enforcers will also be deployed at the Commission on Elections main office in Intramuros, Manila and the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, which will be utilized by the National Board of Canvassers.
Carlos said the agency will also send out its personnel to bus terminals, sea ports, and exit points to and from Metro Manila, including the North Luzon Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, Coastal Road, McArthur Highway, Marcos Highway, Mindanao Avenue, and A. Bonifacio Drive.
