BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A twenty-seven-year-old local man pleaded guilty to assaulting his twenty-seven-year-old wife and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Awangku Alif bin Pengiran Ali punched his wife on the forehead and right thigh at their home at Jalan Kelab Golf Pantai Mentiri at 9pm on January 31, 2016.

The defendant had lost his temper after having a verbal argument with his wife, Deputy Public Prosecutor Norhayati Omar informed the court.

At 2pm on March 7, 2016, the defendant punched his wife in her head, pulled her hair multiple times, hit her wrist and stomped her calf with his foot at a house in Kampong Sungai Kebun, Kampong Ayer.

Magistrate Pengiran Shahyzul bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman further heard from the prosecution that the defendant became aggressive and lost his temper after being told by his wife that she had put away an item he was looking for, believing it was used for consumption of controlled drugs.
