SANDAKAN, SABAH

People should not hesitate to go for health screening as health is a valuable asset, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.

Speaking at the ‘Sihat Ceria’ programme yesterday, Tan advised the public to be alert about their own health and to go for periodic health examination.

“Health screening is vital as it not only determines our health level but acts as a preliminary step to identify chronic health problems thus enabling us to receive further treatment.

“Take the example of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, which if not treated early, can do harm not only to ourselves but also the people around us, who might get infected. However, the disease can be treated if detected early,” he said at the opening ceremony of the programme held at the multipurpose hall of Rancangan Rumah Murah Sim-Sim.

The one-day programme was organised by the Sandakan Area Health Office and the Health Advisory Panel of Klinik Desa Kampung Berhala Darat.

During the programme, local residents took the opportunity to undergo basic health screening and dental check-up which were given free of charge by the medical team. A blood donation and health talk were also held.

Also present were Sandakan health officer Dr Johari Awang Besar and chairperson of Panel Klinik Desa Kampung Berhala Darat, Zaiton Haji Matnoor.

Tan had applauded the organisers who initiated the event with talks to educate the public as well as the free health and dental check-up.

He said the improvised Klinik Desa Kampung Berhala Darat had benefited some 3,000local residents in the area.
