Sub-Regional Defence Ministers' Meeting On Counter-Terrorism Shared And Exchanged Views

Recognising that terrorism pose a rising challenge to the region, the Sub-Regional Defence Ministers' Meeting on Counter-Terrorism shared and exchanged views, as well as stepped up cooperation to fight the common threat of terrorism. The meeting was hosted by Senator the Honourable Marise Payne, Minister for Defence of Australia in Perth, Australia.

 

Representing Brunei Darussalam was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence. In her welcoming remarks, Senator the Honourable Marise Payne highlighted Australia's commitment to work together with sub-regional partners represented by six Southeast Asian countries in the fight against terrorism.

 

Also present at the meeting were His Excellency Retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu, Minister of Defence of Republic of Indonesia; His Excellency Delfin Negrillo Lorenzana, Secretary of Defense of Republic of the Philippines; His Excellency Dato' Sri Mohd Johari bin Baharum, Deputy Minister of Defence, Malaysia; His Excellency Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Singapore; and His Excellency General Chaichan Changmongkol, Deputy Minister of Defence, Kingdom of Thailand. The Ministers and representatives also had the opportunity to visit Campbell Barracks for Special Operations Command (SOCOMD) Counter-Terrorism Demonstration.
