The paddy issue was highlighted again yesterday, focusing on the production and creation of new paddy variety within BIMP-EAGA, as achieved by several countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohimin bin Haji Johari queried to the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade on the cooperation and research being done within BIMP-EAGA in creating new variety of paddy for the country.

According to Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the research for paddy variation within BIMP-EAGA is very much private sector-driven, not government driven. Therefore, if the private sector wants to cooperate in research or share information pertaining to paddy variations, the government will improve its efforts to make further negotiations.
