Every workshop is required to install oil sumps to collect waste oil before sending it to used oil treatment centres accredited by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, JASTRE. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development underscored the matter in response to the query voiced by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman on the issue of waste oil disposal to prevent environmental pollution.

Yang Berhormat said that in every licence application, either new or renewals,  JASTRE will give a condition that every workshop is required to install waste oil sumps to collect the waste oil, before being sent to used oil treatment centres accredited by JASTRE. If the regulation is violated, the licence will not be issued or renewed. JASTRE with the cooperation of the Land Transport Department will also conduct regular inspections at the workshops to ensure that waste oil is disposed of correctly and not in nearby drains.
