The Enforcement Of Certain Laws On Foreigners

​Yesterday morning's deliberations also focused on matters pertaining to the Ministry of Home Affairs. On the issue of control through the enforcement of certain laws on foreigners who are registered as company owners and subsequently conducting business in the country, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs, said a new policy is in the process of being introduced for foreign company owners wishing to hold the post of director or main positions at the managerial level and reside in the country.

 

In response to the issue raised by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Rahim, Yang Berhormat Pehin explained that a number of actions have been taken on several director position foreign applicants submitted to the Job Centre for the foreign workers licence process. According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, to date, 80 foreigners holding immigration passes have had their employee passes nullified, 10 others are awaiting repatriation while another 54 are still under further investigation.

 

According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, the Ministry through the Labour Department with the cooperation of the manpower policy planning unit, the Prime Minister's Office and PENGGERAK, is in the process of introducing a new policy for foreign company owners wishing to hold director posts or main positions at the managerial level and reside in Brunei Darussalam. The policy aims to ensure the foreign national is truly qualified through validation of certain criteria and will contribute to the economy and employment for locals. The criteria include setting a salary scale, academic qualification requirements and also local workforce recruitment.
