Cooperation and understanding are the spirits of the Legislative Council meeting. It is a platform for consultative councils and discussions based on consultation rather than confrontation. This spirit is also hoped for as it is the Bruneian spirit based on the country's Malay Islamic Monarchy concept. The Minister of Religious Affairs stated the matter in his adjournment speech yesterday afternoon.
Yang Berhormat said the Legislative Council meeting conforms to the laws of Syari'ah or is shari'ah complaint and in line with what the country wants because it is based on the Declaration of Independence 34 years ago that Brunei Darussalam will forever be an Islamic Malay Monarchy, MIB, a democracy which follows the teachings of Islam practised by the Ahli Sunnah Wal-jamaah school of thought. Hence, Yang Berhormat added, if anyone asked where is the democracy of the MIB? Reply firmly our democracy is based on the teachings of Islam of the Ahli Sunnah Wal-jamaah or the belief of Companions and followers of the Messenger of Allah. The Minister added do not be shy to state this. We would never discard the Brunei democracy because the democracy of Brunei is one that totally suits the country.
