SUNGAI KEBUN, BRUNEI-MUARA

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Local Network organised a technical visit to Sungai Kebun Bridge last Saturday.

Thirty-two participants comprising IET members, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Politeknik Brunei (PB) students, consultants and Brunei Association of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects (PUJA) members attended the visit with the objective to learn the technology and materials being used in constructing the bridge.

The IET visit was welcomed by Awang Haji Mazlan bin Haji Abdul Salim, Acting Senior Executive Engineer of Roads Department who also briefed the participants on the development of the bridge from its initial stage until the current construction progress of the bridge.

Whereas Awang Haji Mohamad bin Haji Tuah, Project Engineer for Sungai Kebun Bridge led the participants to the construction sites to have a closer look at the bridge and get a chance to view how the cable-stay is being installed and the cover being cut and jointed using special tools.

The Sungai Kebun Bridge is one of the new landmarks for Brunei Darussalam that connects Bandar Seri Begawan to Mukim Lumapas, set to be the World's Second longest 300-metre one-pylon concrete cable-stayed bridge.

The project is being built by a joint venture between Swee Sendirian Berhad and South Korea's Daelim Industrial.

IET Brunei network was founded in 1997 with a vision of sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global science, engineering and technology (SET) community contributing towards national development.

The IET is one of the world's leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.
