The B Class Vessel 'S.S Bebatik' served with excellence and gave many lessons and experiences to its sailors who shared many happy and unhappy memories as well as challenges to safety in their life and job as mariners.
The decommissioning of the Cargo Ship SS Bebatik has affected the sailors very deeply. 45 years is a benchmark of success for the Brunei Gas Carriers Sendirian Berhad in achieving their vision to develop the country's resources into safe, trusted and sustainable maritime transportation. One of the sailors, Captain Muhammad Shahbrin bin Ibrahim spoke about some of his experiences including having to stay in Japan for more than two months. He talked about the different weather conditions and being far away from his family and about the happiness and sadness that he felt. Captain Muhammad Sahbrin added the career is challenging. It helps to build character and security.
Another officer, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew @Martin described his 15 years of experience working with people of different races including Europeans and Africans. He is sad because SS Bebatik taught him to be an efficient officer. They experienced hardship which developed their mental strength. Captain Abdul Mateen advised, never give up because sooner or later the promotion will come. He said the B Class ship was a place to learn their beginning and without it, he would not have been able to captain other ships.
Recording shipments of 217 million tonnes of LNG, the 45 years of sailing made the SS Bebatik one of the oldest cargo ships in the world, followed by S.S Belanak. The B Class ship also gave lessons and expertise on sailing ships to local sailors, officers and crew alike.
The B Class Vessel SS Bebatik achieved success and excellence in its 45 years. It also united sailors from different backgrounds in carrying out their duties towards accomplishing their vision. May the ship be an example to other ships in providing safe shipping service, especially in delivering cargoes.
