Muslims are celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri full of joy and gratitude. The concept of visiting one another is a tradition of the Bruneian people which dates back to the old days. To this day, the tradition remains strong among communities in the country despite the much-changed atmosphere and environment brought about by modernisation.
In the Tutong District, the festive period also provides a chance for people to get to know and get up to date with their relatives who they do not see often during normal days, and for the younger generation to know their distant elder relatives. Aside from not neglecting our spiritual obligations, we are also encouraged not to indulge ourselves in wasteful matters which are against the religion, such as festivals and entertainment that lack moral or cause wastage.
As in the other districts, the joyous occasion can also be seen in the Temburong district as people host Open Houses. A special and unique trait that can be seen at Open Houses in this district is that guests are served with both traditional and modern dishes, such as ketupat, lemang and satay.
The concept of hosting an Open House plays an important role in strengthening family ties. The joyous Aidilfitri atmosphere can also be seen in the Belait district, with the tradition of hosting Open Houses expected to be held throughout the month of Syawal to provide an opportunity for family and friends to visit.
