Tahlil Ceremony

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon, attended a Tahlil ceremony for His Majesty's late parents, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit at the Royal Mausoleum.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; and Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brothers,
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;
His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah;
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; and other members of the royal family.
The ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
This was followed by a reading of the Tahlil, doa tahlil and doa selamat led by the State Mufti.
His Majesty then poured ayeng asah-asahan or scented water on the tombs of His Majesty's late parents. Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien passed away on the 3rd of Muharram 1407 Hijrah corresponding to the 7th of September 1986. Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit passed away on the 20th of Syawal 1399 Hijrah corresponding to the 13th of September 1979.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also poured ayeng asah-asahan on the tombs of Al-Marhum and Al-Marhumah.
This was followed by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;
His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah;
And His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah. Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien was crowned as the 28th Sultan of Brunei after Al-Marhum's older brother, Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Akhazul Khairi Waddin passed away in 1950. Al-Marhum was a loving Monarch and far sighted. Among the most important events that occurred during Al-Marhum's reign was the establishment of the State Constitution, as well as policies on education, religion, security, communications and the welfare of the country's citizens and residents.
Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Privy Council, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Hulubalang, Members of the Legislative Council, Permanent Secretaries and senior government officers.
