DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean has vowed that his charges will come back a better team after falling to their heaviest defeat in the S League in seven years in the 5-0 away loss to Home United on Thursday.
The last time the reigning holders were at the end of a heavy defeat was the 6-2 loss to Tampines Rovers FC in 2013 when they secured their lowest ever position in the lague in eighth.
The 'Gegar Gegar' men will be having a lengthy break from competitive action as they are not scheduled to be back until June 11.
The head coach said that the wait until their visit to title contenders Tampines Rovers will allow them time to address the capitulation which seriously dented their faltering title defence hopes.
"Fortunately we have a long time to deal with it before our next match. The next time you see our team, we will be much better than that," vowed Kean in a post-match interview.
It was Kean's worst result since appointed head coach six months after guiding DPMM FC to their maiden S League title at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
"We are bitterly disappointed. It is definitely our worst result but I am more concerned that it was our worst performance," the head coach said.
The coach has labelled Danish striker Ken Ilso "a good player" in his pre-match interview and the scorer justified his claims with a brace to add to his goal tally against the Brunei-based outfit to six.
The former Bundesliga player, who boasts nine goals in 12 appearances this term, has also bagged four goals in two separate games at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last year.
Kean added that their displays did not merit any points from the game indicating that they have not turned up to perform their usual football.
"The performance of the players tonight do not deserve anything, they were second to everything. Basics which we usually do very well, we did not do any of it all," the head coach said.
Kean's opposite number Phillipe Aw has warned that the 5-0 demolition against the titleholders represents a signal of intent on their aspirations of progressing further in the league.
"I think we sent out a signal of intent. Our season is on track and we can get better taking into account that they don't have their best player (Paulo Sergio)," Aw said.
