Woman, Granddaughter Burned To Death In Putatan House Fire

A grandmother and her granddaughter were killed after the family house was destroyed by a fire at Kampung Contoh in Petagas here on Thursday night.

 

The charred remains of Tiah Awang, 86, and Nurul Farhana Zulkifli, 15, were found under the debris by Fire and Rescue personnel a couple of hours after the incident happened around 8pm.

 

State Fire and Rescue Department Public Relation Officer, Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said a distress call was received at 8.30pm and four fire engines with 20 firefighters from Penampang and Sembulan stations were sent to the scene within minutes.

 

“We managed to put the fire under control by 9pm and found the victims’ bodies under the debris while carrying out further inspection.

 

“We immediately alerted the police for further action,” he said, adding that the whole operation ended around midnight yesterday..

 

Mohd Affendy said the cause of the fire and loss were still under investigation.
