Brunei Darussalam practises the teachings of Al-Quran and As-sunnah and follows the Mazhab As-Shafie of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah which unites the communities in the country.   The country's Muslims should be thankful to Allah the Almighty because despite the competition and turmoil's of the global era, the security of the people and the sovereignty of the nation continue to be protected.  The people and the country continue to enjoy peace and prosperity under the caring rule of a Monarch who places the people's well-being and harmony first with guidance from the teachings of Islam and the laws and rules of Allah the Almighty.  The matter was highlighted in the Khutbah Jumaat or Friday sermon titled, "Memelihara Dan Mengekalkan Keamanan Serta Keharmonian Negara" which means "Protecting and Maintaining the Country's Peace and Harmony."

In the sermon, the Imam or prayer leader said maintaining the peace, harmony and prosperity of the nation requires strong faith and good understanding on the teachings of Islam.  This will fortify the people against any influence or belief which disturbs the peace of family life, the community and nation.  The prayer leader added one should be wary of doubtful or deviant teachings because they could mislead Muslims, especially those with little real understanding of the true teachings of Islam.  The prayer leader added Islam advocates and love peace and prohibits the ummah from causing damage or committing malice, vice, violence and tyranny.  The sermon highlighted that Islam rejects extremism and any movement which uses violence or terror to ruin national peace and harmony.
