Seruji Haji Setia, one of the nation's leading golfers in years, has lauded the contributions of Sports School and several schemes initiated by the Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, towards the rapid development of golf in the country with the birth of golfing talents.
The seasoned golfer first started playing 30 years ago and became more serious around 20 years ago adding that he took interest whilst starting out as a caddy for several senior players.
His interest in the sport since then escalated to great heights and now became established as a household name in the local golfing scene with his collection of major accomplishments.
Commenting on aging players, the 47-year old said that age should not be considered a hindrance to embark on a challenge because in golf there are specific categories catered to older players.
"Age should be the final factor in determining success in addition to expertise and drive because it has been proven by many top names in the world who have indeed aged," Seruji said.
He added that playing every week represents the best training platform for individuals who express desire to consider golf as their main sport.
The three-time and defending Baiduri Masters winner, who won the trophy in 2010, 2014 and 2015, acknowledged that competition was getting tougher each year due to the increase of new and young potential players and seeing their development he strives to reach his optimum.
Seruji has asserted hopes of defending his title a record three times and donning the green jacket and in order for him to realize this, he agreed that he must exhibit calm and do not play hurriedly in the hopes of a good performance.
