BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah stresses that the National Educational System should not be "zero religion" or devoid of religious subjects. Hence His Majesty emphasises that all relevant parties should make Islamic History a compulsory subject at schools and studies centre under the related ministries and in the private sector. His Majesty delivered the titah during the Audience and Investiture Ceremony at the Balai Singgahsana, Istana Nurul Iman in conjunction with His Majesty's 72nd Birthday this morning. In the titah, the Monarch also highlights measures towards economic growth. These include agriculture, entrepreneurship and telecommunications infrastructure. The Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam began with the traditional Grand Royal Birthday Parade or Guard of Honour at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital. His Majesty graced the ceremony which took place earlier yesterday morning.

 The traditional parade in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebration further enlivened by the presence of every segment of the community. Regardless of age, their participation reflected the unity, strong support and undivided loyalty to the Monarch.

 Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the proud and joyful waving of miniature Brunei Darussalam national flags by six thousand students who lined up the route leading to Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. The beating of the hadrah that welcomed His Majesty was electrifying and aroused a feeling of happiness and patriotism among the participants and visitors.

 Shortly after the arrival, His Majesty consented to receive the Royal Salute. At the same time, 21 cannon shots echoed in the air, accompanied by the National Anthem.

Also attending the ceremony were His Majesty's son and brothers;

 His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

 His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and

 His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

The traditional ceremony was also attended by the special guests of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The Monarch then consented to inspect the Guard of Honour mounted by personnel of the Royal Brunei Land Force, Royal Brunei Navy, Royal Brunei Air Force, the Royal Brunei Police Force, government departments and other uniformed organisations. The Guard of Honour was under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Mohammad Shamsul Reza Bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Tengah. Around seven thousand and seven hundred forty six (7746) participants took part in the parade.

 The combined bands of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Royal Brunei Police Force accompanied the parade and march past in front of the Royal dias.

 Three cheers of "Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik" resonated in the air, representing a pledge of undivided loyalty to the beloved and much admired Monarch.

 In the air space over the capital, planes and helicopters of the Royal Brunei Air Force flew past as the grand parade came to a climax.

 15 of July is a very significant date to the country's citizens and residents. For them, it is the time to express gratitude and loyalty to His Majesty.
