Working Visit On Various Agricultural Activities

Several members of the 2018 Knowledge Convention Steering Committee yesterday afternoon made a working visit to the agriculture development site in the Brunei Muara District. Among other things, the visit aimed to seek information and monitor various development on agricultural activities in the district - as preparation for the Knowledge Convention in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 72nd Birthday celebration. This year's knowledge convention highlights the economic sector by focusing on agriculture and specific projects.

 

Joining the delegation were Yang Berhormat Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Mokti Bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz Bin Juned, the State Mufti as the Advisor of the 2018 Knowledge Convention, and Doctor Haji Abdul Manaf Bin Haji Metussin, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The delegation began their visit to the Sinar Tenaga Sdn Bhd which produces vegetables and fruits at a 5 hectares land on Site A1, Tungku Agricultural Development Area. The farm which is the company's pilot project was able to generate 4 point 1-5 metric tonnes valued at 14 thousand 9 hundred dollars in 2017.

 

The delegation then visited farms belong to RZ Prisma Enterprise. The vegetable farm are using greenhouse system, hydroponic as well as vertical farming.

 

The Ameenfarm Agrotech and Trading located at Kilanas Agricultural Research Centre are practicing vegetable farming using fertigation system. The 4 hectares land began its operation in 2016. It was able to produce 3 point 0-7 metric tonnes worth 6 thousand 5 hundred and 69 dollars last year.

 

The delegation also visited the poultry rearing farm owned by Syarikat Riza Group at Tanah Tuah Agricultural Development area in Bebatik Kilanas. The farm has generated 23 thousand 283 metric tonnes at market value of 106 point 5-3 million dollars, last year.

 

Also caught the delegation's attention was a farm belongs to Syarikat Hj Saleh bin Hj Ludin dan Anak-Anak located at Batumpu Agricultural development area. The farm recorded 495 point 9 metric tonnes of vegetable for last year's production.

 

 The delegation also witnessed the integrated farming system at Syarikat Tunas Harapan and Hua Ho Agricultural Farms.

 

The visit ended at Wasan Agricultural Development area where the delegation monitor Wasan paddy plantation project carried out by KOSEKA (Setia Kawan Cooperatives) and Mukim Pengkalan Batu Consultative Council. According to the Agricultural and Agrifood Department, starting October this year, farmers at the area are able to start Titih Paddy seedlings plantation which can generate 8 metric tonnes of paddy per hectare in a season. The Sembada 188 paddy are able to generate up to 6 metric tonnes of paddy per hectare in a season. The production on both varieties of hybrid are higher compared to Laila Paddy, which at the moment can only produce 3 metric tonnes per hectare in one season.
