Brunei International Airport held a Brunei International Airport Safety Emergency Drill 2018 involving a situation of a hijacked plane before departure. The Brunei International Airport Safety Emergency Drill 2018 among other things aimed to ascertain the preparedness to tackle an emergency situation especially in testing the effectiveness of channelling and receiving information as well as communications system among the agencies. Apart from that, it is also to ensure the preparedness of the agencies related to training as well as to assess efficiency and effectiveness in coordinating emergency response which involved flight operations and terminal building services.
The Brunei International Airport Safety Emergency Drill 2018 took almost seven hours starting at 9.30 in the evening, in cooperation with agencies at the Brunei International Airport; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Communications; Royal Brunei Police Force; Fire and Rescue Department; National Immigration and Registration Department; Civil Aviation Department; Royal Brunei Airlines and stakeholder agencies at the Brunei International Airport. The drill was participated by 350 officers and staff as well as other relevant agencies. The drill ended about 4 in the morning. Present to witness the drill was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence who is also the Chairman of the National Security Committee AND Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Communications. Also present, National Security Committee members and Civil Aviation Security National Committee as well as stakeholder agencies at the Brunei International Airport.
