Launching Of ASEAN Car Free Day

​Towards supporting recreational and community-building activities, the Car Free Day initiative has been organised in many cities throughout the world, including the ASEAN region. Brunei Darussalam yesterday, joins other ASEAN countries at the launch of ASEAN Car Free Day, a movement by the ASEAN people to conduct simultaneous physical activity on Car-Free Days in each country, to promote a healthy lifestyle culture. The event took place yesterday morning at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the Capital.
The event was launched by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Second Minister of Finance; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Hajii Mohd Hussein, Minister of Energy(Energy and Manpower) and Industry AND Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Communications. Also present was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy (Energy and Manpower) and Industry. Such an event aims to realise the implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on Culture of Prevention (COP) for a Peaceful, Inclusive, Resilient, Healthy and Harmonious Society adopted at the 31st ASEAN Summit on the 13th of November 2017 in Manila. Among the highlight of the ASEAN Car Free Day was a 2.6-Kilometre walkathon around Bandar Seri Begawan. Meanwhile, the Health Exhibition put up by the Health Promotion Centre among others focused on promoting healthy lifestyle including healthy diet and goodness of sports. Aside from raising awareness on the importance of Mental Health, the exhibition also stresses the importance of breastfeeding.
