​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam this morning consented to make an unscheduled visit to the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute at Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha in Bandar Seri Begawan. The visit was a follow-up to His Majesty's unscheduled visit to the institute's Study Block and the Female Student's Hostel in Jalan Ong Sum Ping four days ago.

The Students Study Block was among the main focus of His Majesty's visit where His Majesty mingled with vision-impaired students. They comprised 8 students who attend Al-Quran memorising classes using the Braille method. Earlier, the Monarch toured the Administrative Block and Surau of the institute.

The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Qur'an Institute is the country's sole secondary and diploma level Al-Quran memorising studies institute which combines Al-Quran memorisation and Al-Quran Knowledge as the foundation besides subjects such as Islamic Studies, Arabic and others.  The 'Aliyah Qira'at Programme provides a platform for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of Al-Quran knowledge without needing to study abroad. It also intends to produce more human resource who are highly skilful in Al-Quran related fields especially in Qiraat. 89 students are currently undergoing the Aliyah Qiraat Diploma Programme at the institute.

His Majesty's care, concern and attention are not only focused on the Educational System but also on the schools' infrastructure. This is because the comfort and well-being of the students are the catalyst of success for any educational institution in line with the current trends and needs.

His Majesty also toured the male students' hostel which accommodates 203 students. At the facility, special attention was given to cleanliness. His Majesty then inspected the dining hall to ensure the students' welfare and well-being were looked after properly.

The Monarch then proceeded to the Lecture Hall of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute for a closed Muzakarah or meeting session with the Acting Principal and teaching staff as well as the institute's students. Throughout the visit, His Majesty was accompanied by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Awang Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office and Pengiran Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit, the Acting Principal of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute.

The Tahfiz institute has taken further measures towards expanding the Al-Quran Studies in areas of Al-Quran Knowledge and Art such as Tarannum Al Quran through cooperation in the academic field with the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA. It provides the institute's Aaliyah Qiraat Diploma graduates the opportunity of higher studies in the country through the Tahfiz and Qiraat Bachelor's Degree Programme.

Based on the vision to become the most excellent Al-Quran Memorising and Development Institute in the country and at the regional and international levels, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Qur'an Institute continues to strive towards realising the objectives of its establishment which include maintaining and guarding the sanctity and authenticity of Al-Quran from any change, amendment or discrepancy. Since its establishment 25 years ago, 150 fifty male and 130 female students have completed memorising Al-Quran and became Huffaz or memorisers of Al-Quran.
