Commencing Of Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2018

​The Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2018 commenced yesterday morning with the Inter-Ministry 25 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race. His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office launched the Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2018 at the Royal Wharf in the capital.

 

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Communications who is also the Acting Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; and Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as Co-Advisor of the Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2018 Executive Committee. Also present was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah.

 

Boarding a special boat, His Royal Highness proceeded to the waters of Sungai Brunei, 2 thousand meters away from the Royal Wharf, to flag-off the Inter-Ministry 25 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race.

 

11 teams took part in the Inter-Ministry 25 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race, comprising the Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Religious Affairs; Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; Ministry of Defence; Ministry of Development; Ministry of Communications; the Prime Minister's Office; Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education.

 

First place went to the Ministry of Defence, followed by the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Development.

 

In the morning session, 6 events were competed, namely the Inter-District 20 Paddlers Fibre Glass Boat Race;

 

the Open 25 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race; the Under-30 Youth 15 Paddlers Fibre Glass Boat Race;

 

the Inter-Ministry 25 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race; the Inter-Private Company 20 Paddlers Fibre Glass Boat Race; and the Open 30 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race.

 

The next event was the Inter-Private Company 20 Paddlers Fibre Glass Boat Race. 6 teams competed in the race, namely Setia Protective Security Services (S-P-S-S); TAIB; DST; the Royal Brunei; Telbru; Takaful and Baiduri Bank. SPSS took first place, while the second and third place went to Telbru and Royal Brunei respectively.

 

Another event was the Open 30 Paddlers Traditional Boat Race, where teams from various ministries, mukims, districts, uniformed organisations as well as from overseas took part. Laksamana Seri Sinampuan took first place, followed by Majlis Sukan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei, and Olahraga Dayung Seluruh Indonesia Kalimantan Barat (PODSI Kalbar).

 

His Royal Highness then presented the prizes to the winners. Each winner received a trophy, cash prize and medals.

 

This traditional event not only protects the country's culture and heritage for the future generation, it also enlivened the atmosphere in the capital, apart from further raising the country's name. Organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the regatta is hoped to strengthen the tradition of togetherness and solidarity among the people in the nation.
