JALAN PEMBANGUNAN, BERAKAS

Eighteen primary school Malay teachers from Singapore visited the Language and Literature Bureau yesterday.

Dayang Siti Faridah binti Omar, Head of the Singapore delegation said, "The new generation is into Apps and IT therefore from the visit at the Language and Literature Bureau, we hope to learn about Brunei's experience in preserving its local folk stories and pass down the stories to the younger generation especially students."

"It's ideal for students to listen and increase their interest on folk stories because they always conveyed moral values. The stories also teach students to think critically to make decisions at a young age," she added.

During the presentation, it was learned that a number of Singapore schools created digital forms of folk stories to entice the interest of students.

"We managed to create digital form of folktales for students to relive the stories. The students can also be involved in the stories like incorporating their voices in the story through the programme," said Siti Faridah.

She also revealed that the Singapore's teachers will also be attached to four local primary schools to share teaching experiences in the coming days.

The schools involved are Mabohai Primary school, Datu Ratna Primary School, Pintu Malim Primary School and Mata-Mata Primary School.

Present to welcome the visiting teachers were Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau with Dayang Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak, Acting Deputy Director and Awang Haji Mohd Ali bin Haji Radin, Head of Books Planning Division.

Awang Suip, delivered an in depth briefing on the role and vision of the Language and Literature Bureau while Haji Mohd Ali touched on Brunei's folktales.
