His Majesty Visited Three Educational Institutions In The Capital

The attentiveness of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam towards growth and development of education in the country was emphasised through visits to education institutions. After presenting house keys, His Majesty visited three educational institutions in the capital.

 

First, His Majesty visited the Pusar Ulak Primary School in Bandar Seri Begawan. Upon arrival His Majesty was greeted by Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajudin, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education and Mr Colm Mc Dermott, Headmaster of the School. As one of the oldest primary school in the country, it has two buildings - the old and new one. The old building was firstly used in 1967, while the new building three years ago.

 

At present, 276 pupils are studying at the Pusar Ulak Primary School from pre-class up to Year Six. They come from villages and areas in the capital as well as surrounding areas. In 1968, the school recorded the highest admission of more than One thousand 50 pupils.

 

During visits to classes in the school, His Majesty was attentive with the students' education by interacting with them.

 

The Pusar Ulak Primary School has also made initiative by making Birthday Cards in conjunction with His Majesty's 72nd Birthday which has attracted the monarch's attention.

 

Meanwhile at the Pre-class, His Majesty was attracted with the eloquence of the students at the early age.

 

As other government primary schools, the Pusar Ulak Primary School also emphasises on the 'School-Home Link' Programme between parents and schools in several subject including mathematics. The programme helps the school to monitor the students' learning development at home with the cooperation of the students' parents and guardians. Through the programme, parents and guardians are able to assist their children revising as well as further enhancing their preparations before sitting for the upcoming Primary School Assessment, PSR.

 

The Ministry of Education in its effort to enhance the quality of education in the primary, secondary, post-secondary, technical and vocational education as well as higher learning levels, a number of strategies have been drafted in line with the ministry's vision to provide holistic education in order to achieve full potential for all. Among them, education strategy at the Primary and Secondary Level through the implementation of the Primary and Secondary Education Initiative; Enhancing the Teacher's Skills and the Principal and Headmaster Leadership Capability; and Enhancing the Students' Literacy and Numeracy.

 

His Majesty then visited the Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School which also located in the capital. His Majesty's arrival was greeted by Doctor Awang Haji Azman bin Haji Ahmad, Permanent Secretary for higher learning at the Ministry of Education and Dayang Nor'izzah binti Haji Othman, Acting Principal of the school. One of the oldest schools in the country, the name of the Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School was named after Sultan Brunei Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam, the 26th Sultan of Brunei.

 

In producing mentally and physically active students apart from excellent in their academic, the students' involvement in co-curricular activities such as sports enable them to be more active and healthy.

 

With more than 900 students, the school continues to enhance teaching and learning strategies for its students in line with the school's mission to educate the students towards excellence with skills and valuable ethics.

 

His Majesty then walked to the nearby Raja Isteri Fatimah Primary School. Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Dayang Siti Norbayu binti Haji Abdul Samad, the School's Headmaster. His Majesty's unexpected presence has made the students happier while waiting for the school to ends.

 

His Majesty's visit to the three educational institutions portrays His Majesty's attentiveness towards the progress and development of education and the students' needs in the country. This is to ensure that they received complete education not only limited to academics achievement but also life skills, creativity as well as highly self-confidence in religious knowledge that will become their way of life.
