Treasurer General of Brunei Darussalam National Boat Race Association (PERKEBAR), Awang Haji Abu Bakar Abdul Rahman said two new categories were introduced - women and private companies.

He added that the association was looking forward to collaborating with private sector companies to organise the championship in the future.

"We are also planning to organise basic coaching courses for local coaches," he said, adding that the association was hoping to develop athletes mentally and physically.

The aim of the annual championship was to promote traditional boat racing at all levels and scout for new talents.

TelBru's female regatta team participated in the championship for the first time.

TelBru' was the first company to create a team consisting of women rowers.
