BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

In facing challenges of globalisation, the role played by education institutions is becoming more challenging. It cannot be denied that private education institutions also play an important role in producing skilled scholars to meet the needs of industries. According to the Minister of Development, the current job market shows that an education institution is a centre of expertise to assist in preparing expertise according to market demands, by producing skilled, knowledgeable and positive workforce. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar highlighted the matter at the Kolej International Graduate Studies, IGS Convocation yesterday afternoon at Tarindak D'Seni in the capital.

According to Yang Berhormat, cooperation network with industries need to be enhanced for more training opportunities, specifically in fields that are critical in producing skilled workforce. To meet the ever increasing demands of skilled workforce in line with local job market, Yang Berhormat said strategic planning through education transformation should be continued, by raising study placement offers through cooperation with industries. The Minister of Development believed that by focusing on improving the quality of graduates through the implementation of collaborative programmes with local, regional and international higher education institutions, this will pave way for the graduates to gain international standards and have the potential to succeed in the job market in line with the demands of industries.

205 graduates received Bachelor's Degrees, Diplomas and Skill Certificates in Business, Information Technology, and Interactive and Multimedia Design. Present at the ceremony was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Jefriah binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien.

For the October 2018 session, Kolej IGS will have 2 more subjects namely Islamic Studies and History of Islamic Civilisation. This is in line with the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebration this year, that is by making the History of Islam as a compulsory subject at schools and education centres under ministries and private.

Hard work and resilience in learning were among the tips of several graduates to achieve excellent results.
