Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara who is also the patron of the Lela Cheteria Boat Race team yesterday had the opportunity to mingle with the Lela Cheteria Boat Race team (Kg Lorong Dalam Boat Race Council) that won first place at the 3rd Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race held in Likas Bay, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently.

The Lela Cheteria team won in the 800m mix team 20 paddlers category clocking their best time of 3:38.90sec. The team beat Boracay Allstars team from Philippines, which is the last year's champion clocking a time of 3:39.89sec, third place went to Mizanis Sport Boutique KK with a time of 3:41.24sec.

The Lela Cheteria team received trophy and cash money amounting RM8,000 and medals. Speaking in an interview, team manager Pengarah Haji Brahim bin Haji Mohd Yussof said this is the second time the team participated in the race and last year they won third place in the same category.

"This year we managed to claim the championship from Boracay Allstars team from Philippines and break a new record time of 3:38.90sec."

The Lela Cheteria team sent 38 paddlers and took part in four categories in the race. The team managed to complete all races to the final but they only managed to win in the 800m (mix team 20 paddlers). In the mix team 20 paddlers category the team was represented by 12 men and eight women rowers.

Pengarah Haji Brahim said the team is looking forward to participate in the Invitational Dragon Boat Race in Kuching, Sarawak in November this year.
