After joining the cycling recreation, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam took a closer look at the Youth Festival at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien. Themed 'Belia Sayang Raja' or 'Youth Love the Monarch', the festival gathered more than 2 thousand youths from various organisations and groups in the four districts showcasing their creativity and talents.

The joy is clearly seen on the faces of the youths when His Majesty met them. The monarch watched various youth activities showcasing the dynamism of the creative industry and solidarity amongst the youths. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.

The Design Students Academy, or DeSA exhibition, showcased by Politeknik Brunei was among the points of attraction for the monarch. The exhibition highlighted the creative works of the students undertaking Level 5 Diploma in Architecture and Level 5 Diploma in Interior Design.

The Youth Festival showcased more than 34 interesting activities divided into three zones namely creativity, sports and children. The children's zone expose children to educational, creative and brain-teaser activities.

The Festival is hoped to act as a platform for youths to contribute towards talent development for the younger generation that provides exposure and opportunities to explore creativity in a dynamic situation.

The "MECHSIM" project showcased by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (U-T-B) students also attracted the monarch's interest. The project which uses virtual reality technology to carry out mechanical installation simulations won the Higher Studies Project category of the Brunei Info-Communications Technology Award, BICTA 2018.

The Youth festival also showcased the artistic talents of a guitar playing youth. Juan Madial, a graduate of Universiti Brunei Darussalam is one of the local artists who has come out with a number of singles.

The theme 'Youth Love the Monarch' is one of the manifestations of the youth's love for the monarch and country. Youth development is one of the focus given attention by the government of His Majesty, seeing that they are the nation's pillar of hope, who play a major role in deciding and designing the country's future.

The youth festival was also enlivened with the participation of children in a number of traditional and modern sports activities.

A number of sports was also held including Touch Rugby introduced by the Brunei Rugby Union, Silat performance by the Perguruan Seni Silat Cengkaman Harimau Ghaib and Silat Fighter Athlete Association.

At the sports zone, the monarch himself tried the 'battle rope' exercise used to test physical activeness and endurance. His Majesty then watched one of the extreme sports showcased, calisthenics, which is becoming more popular amongst youths. It is a form of exercise with various movements without using any equipment.

One of the activities which also attracted the monarch's interest in the creativity zone is the painting and creative innovation of youths comprising students from higher education institutions, non-government organisations and creative young entrepreneurs as well as interactive activities with artistic elements. The art of creative graffiti was also showcased with messages that are positive, directed and polite.

His Majesty also took a closer look at the 5-a-team boat-pull race using a fibre kayak organised by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Army Cadets team as well as the Fire and rescue uniform wearing race and carrying a fire hydrant to the finishing line within a set time.
