​The 38th ASEANAPOL Conference gathers 27 Chiefs of Police of ASEAN and Heads of delegations of ASEANAPOL Dialogue Partners and Observers. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam officiated the Opening Ceremony of the conference.

Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre, ICC, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hairol Arni bin Haji Abdul Majid, Attorney General; Datin Seri Paduka Dayang Hajah Elinda binti Haji C.A. Mohammad, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; and Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam, the Commissioner of Police, Royal Brunei Police Force.

Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Royal Brunei Police Force.

His Majesty was then introduced to Heads of delegations from ASEAN member countries, Dialogue Partners and Observers. Heads of Delegation from the ASEANAPOL member countries attending the conference are Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd JIMI bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam, the Commissioner of Police, Royal Brunei Police Force;

Police General, Lim Thong from Cambodia National Police;

Police General, Dato Paduka Seri Professor Dr. Muhammad Tito Karnavian from Indonesian National Police; Police Brigadier General Dr. Thonglek Mangnormek from Lao Police Force;

Inspector General Tan Sri Dato' Sri Mohamad Fuzi bin Harun from Royal Malaysia Police;

Police Lieutenant General Aung Win Oo, from Myanmar Police Force;

Police General Oscar D Albayalde from Philippines National Police; 

Commissioner of Police Dato Paduka Seri Hoong Wee Teck from Singapore Police Force;

Police Lieutenant General, Promtorn Parkart from Royal Thai Police;

Police Lieutenant General, Tran Van Ve from General Department of Viet Nam Police; and Police Colonel Kenechanh Phommachack from ASEANAPOL Secretariat.

The Dialogue Partners are those from the ASEAN Secretariat; Commonwealth of Australia; Peoples Republic of China; International Criminal Police Organisation, INTERPOL; Japan; Republic of Korea; New Zealand; Russian Federation; and Republic of Turkey. Meanwhile, the Observers are from International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC; Europol; National Police of Timor Leste; National Crime Agency United Kingdom, Fiji Police Headquarters; Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI; and International Association of Chiefs of Police, IACP.

His Majesty then received a pasambah from the Royal Brunei Police Force.

At the Main Conference Hall, His Majesty and other Heads of Delegation joined the one minute's silence to commemorate the fallen police officers of the ASEANAPOL community, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The opening ceremony of the 38th ASEANAPOL Conference began with the reading of Doa by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aimi Safwan bin Zalidin.

In his welcoming remarks, Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jimmy, the Commissioner of Police, Royal Brunei Police Force stressed that the region should not be complacent and take for granted the peace, security and prosperity that the region enjoys and must continue to strive to keep ASEAN safe.

His Majesty then officially opened the 38th ASEANAPOL Conference. ASEANAPOL was established with the objective to enhance police professionalism, forge stronger regional cooperation in policing and to promote lasting friendship among police officers of member countries.

The Royal Brunei Police Force became a member of ASEANAPOL in 1984 when it joined the annual conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is the 2nd time that Brunei Darussalam plays host to the conference, with the first one in 2008.

"ASEANAPOL In Unison", the conference's theme song marks the end of the opening ceremony. His Majesty then proceeded to a luncheon with the Heads of delegations from the ASEANAPOL member countries, Dialogue Partners and Observer Countries.

Since 1981, the ASEANAPOL Conference has provided an annual platform for senior ASEAN national police personnel to come together towards realising its objective of forging stronger regional cooperation in policing. The regional police forces conference alongside various international law enforcement agencies is a testament of ASEANAPOL's relentless and unwavering joint efforts against crime and security threats within the region.
