The 18th Consumer Fair (CF18) kicked-off yesterday with a unique 'Food Fest' theme, premiering some of the sweetest and savoury delicacies ranging from day-to-day snacks and sit down meals spread over five days at the International Convention Centre (ICC).

Organisers have provided a wide selection of local and international specialty dishes that can be experienced by all visitors as well as invited chefs from neighbouring countries to demonstrate their culinary skills with cooking classes and food-oriented activities.

In his welcoming remark, D'Sunlit Executive Director, Dato Paduka Haji Danial bin Haji Hanafiah, in his capacity as the main organiser said the biannual event aims to aid local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) gain better-footing with a vibrant platform that offers business opportunities for all.

The guest of honour was the Acting Minister of Development, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, who officiated the event that was witnessed by senior government officials, ambassadors, high commissioners as well as representatives from participating vendors.

Dubbed as the 'Biggest Deal in Town', the 18th Consumer Fair boasts more than 400 booths with 180 participating exhibitors both locally and internationally - hailing from Malaysia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cambodia, India and Singapore.

Some of the activities include classes with award winning chefs and tutors, ranging from baking classes by Bake Culture, which has onsite registration; cooking classes and demonstrations conducted by Her's Kitchen and invited chefs from Malaysia as well as Piccolo's latte art demonstrations.

Other attractions include 'junior Chef's Cookout' and 'Family Cook Out' activities, the ice-cream decoration challenge, Treasure Hunt Maze by Wonder Theme Sdn Bhd, photo booth and the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Blood Donation Drive.

Organisers have provided a day-care centre by KindyKare International for busy parents with young children.

The crowd's favourite, the grand lucky draw of the 18th Consumer Fair, will also be held.

Moreover, the Department of Agriculture Extension from the Government of Thailand is hosting the 9th Thailand Grand Fair featuring the most exotic fruits from the kingdom.

Sarawak Timber has also joined in the fair as one of the biggest partners promoting some of the best delicacies from the east Malaysian state as well as providing various products and services allowing business networking opportunities.

CF18 has also published its r volume In-fair Magazine featuring valuable information on the food and beverage industry and a sneak peak of the profiles from the award winning chefs as well as great deals from vendors and activities schedule.

CF18 will be open to the public from May 25-29, 10am to 10pm. Free shuttle bus services will also be available to ferry visitors between the Indoor Stadium parking lots to the ICC.
