​In order to provide exposure to students on the national heritage, a delegation of Year 7 Humanities students of the Jerudong International School, JIS, made a study visit to the Malay Technology Museum and Kota Batu Archaeological Park near the capital. His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah was among the students making the study tour.

Upon arrival at the Malay Technology Museum, His Royal Highness was greeted by Datin Paduka Doctor Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Awang Haji Mohd Jefri bin Haji Sabli, the Acting Director of Museums. The Malay Technology Museum with its mission to preserve the country's culture and traditions, has been listed as one of the tourist attractions. This was shown with an increase number of visitors comprising the locals and tourists, from 28 thousand 2 hundred and 24 visitors between January to August 2017, to 34 thousand One hundred and 50 in the same period this year.

The museum has 3 exhibition halls. Among them are the Kampung Ayer Traditional House Exhibition which showcases Kampung Ayer houses during the 19th and 20th centuries, the Kampung Ayer Traditional Technology Exhibition that displays small enterprises in Kampung Ayer such as fishing equipment, boat making and copper as well as weaving craftsmanship. While the sagu making, sugar processing and paddy planting are among the exhibits in the Traditional Technology Exhibition Hall for other ethnics. The replica of Dusun and Kedayan traditional houses as well as the Murut and Punan long houses are also exhibited at the museum.

The delegation was also given the opportunity to visit the Brunei Community Traditional Games Exhibition. The games exhibition is set up in commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Malay Technology Museum. The majority of the traditional games are in the form of recreational, entertainment and sports which develop efficiency, health, educational and mental development. It is part of the heritage games which use natural materials that are easy to obtain. The exhibition is open to the public until the 18th of November this year.

At the Kota Batu Archaeological Park, the students were given a briefing on the park. The park is a landmark project of the Brunei Museums Department as a site for archaeological research and showcasing the unique history of Brunei. The park also exhibits a collection of pottery from various countries and old coins from local and abroad as well as antiquities which are 700 years old.

The park is built on a 48 hectare site and was gazetted under the Antiquities and Hidden Treasures Acts 1967. It is divided into 3 main zones which are equipped with various facilities. Among them are the One Thousand 5 hundred and 80 metres walkway and a connecting bridge to Pulau Terindak. Through the visit, the students were able to take a closer look at the cultural heritage apart from learning school fieldwork specifically in collecting data. More than 120 students participated in the study visit.
