Throughout its 25 years of establishment, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute has successfully produced 279 tahfiz who can memorise the 30 chapters of Al-Quran. The institution's achievement is evident with 54 more tahfiz, and this achievement was highlighted at the Exhibition in conjunction with the institution's Silver Jubilee. His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office took a closer look at the exhibition that was held at Dewan Muzakarah of the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince signed a plaque to commemorate the 6th Hafl Al-Takharruj and the institution's silver jubilee.

The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute was established on the 1st of January 1993, and had 45 students as the first intake. The institution's establishment aims to produce tahfiz Al-Quran, and make Al-Quran memorisation an advantage for the students to further their studies at a higher level, either in Islamic studies or even in science and technology.

In 1997, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute marked another milestone when His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented for the construction of a permanent complex for the institution. The foundation-laying ceremony was officiated by His Royal the Crown Prince, and the institute was officially opened by His Majesty in the year 2000. The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute's mission is to become the finest institution for Al-Quran studies, research and propagation that is efficient and dynamic in producing pious teaching staff, professionals, and tahfiz based on the Quran and As-Sunnah.

The secondary and diploma level of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute combines Al-Quran memorisation and Al-Quran knowledge as the foundation for education apart from other subjects. The institution has gained international attention, specifically from Islamic studies academics, and they see the institute as a manifestation of His Majesty's wise leadership that is strongly based on the teachings of Islam.

Demonstration of the 'Tasmik Hafazan' or the memorisation of Al-Quran for the secondary level was among the points of attraction. The 'Tasmik Hafazan' aims to test the student's memorisation and their tajweed.

Another highlight of the exhibition was the Al-Quran reading demonstration using Braille and and typing the holy verses of Al-Quran using Braille by two special students. The resilience of 28 year old Dayang Nur Asilah binti Mohd Zaini, and 39 year-old Dayang Siti Rosyidah @ Noramaslina binti Abdullah proved that one's disability does not prevent them from learning the Quran. Currently, there are 7 students who are taking the Al-Quran Braille class at the institution.

Among the achievements of the institute throughout its 25 years of establishment was when several students received the 'Sultan Scholar' and government scholarship to further their studies overseas. Some of the graduates also received the Bachelor's Degree for Takhasus Al-Quran Wal Qira'at at Ma'had Qira'at Shoubra in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Tahfiz Al-Quran diploma at Darul Quran, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, JAKIM.

The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute also made history when the institute was given international recognition of the Ma'had Tahfiz Al-Quran Al-Karim Mithali Award for 1435 at the 7th His Royal Highness King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saaud Al-Quran Al-Karim International Award Presentation Ceremony in 2014 at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The institute also received recognition from the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University for 'Hafiz' who completed the 30 chapters of the Quran based on specific requirements.

The emphasis on Al-Quran is one of the biggest contributions towards realising the country's aspiration in becoming a Zikir Nation. Brunei Darussalam's efforts in glorifying Al-Quran education is based on the belief that Al-Quran-based education is capable of producing a pious society.
