Teacher's Day 2018 Exhibition

This year's Teacher's Day Exhibition involves 13 participants comprising departments under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as several higher studies institutions. The exhibits focused on five areas in line with the celebration's theme this year, 'Guru Dedikasi Pendidikan Cemerlang' or 'Dedicated Teacher, Excellent Education', which is upholding the Titah Pendidikan, Empowering Teacher's Competence, Building the Potential of Special Needs Students, Improving Educational Innovation and Spurring the Country's Progress. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam then viewed the displays at the Lobby of the International Convention Centre.
Before viewing the exhibition, His Majesty viewed the drawings and drawing demonstration by 2 pupils of Government Primary Schools and three sixth-form students. The five students were also the recipients of the Grand Prix Mitsubishi Children's Enikki Festa 2015 and 2018 Awards organised by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan and the winners of the 18th and 19th High School Art Festival of UNESCO organised by the Japanese International Federation of Art and Culture. Two students from the Meragang Sixth Form Centre exhibited a Teacher's Day behind the scene video. The clip is the result of teach the field of Media Studies which was newly introduced in January this year.
The 'Menjulang Titah Pendidikan' exhibition organised by the Education Curriculum Department showcased the Development and Progress in Education which included the latest teaching programmes, Brunei Darussalam Teachers' Academic direction, vision and mission. These were displayed in the 'Memperkasa Kompetensi Guru' exhibition organised by the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, SHBIE, University Brunei Darussalam, the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College and the Brunei Darussalam Teachers Academy, BDTA.
The 'Membina Potensi Pelajar Berkeperluan Khas' exhibition organised by the Special Education Unit of the Islamic Studies Department showcased the needs and interests of special needs students in attending schools under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The skills taught include preparing and making traditional cakes, fried noodles and drinks.
Various methods of reading Al-Quran using braille were also displayed. The skill of Dayang Izzah Aliyah binti Jupri from Jerudong Religious School in using braille to read Al-Quran attracted His Majesty's attention.
The Schools Department exhibited project-inspired pre-school learning methods which included the mind map and activity projects as well as findings data from visits. The project which began in 2013 succeeded in developing the pupils' potential, confidence and creativity.
The proficiency of Awang Zahin Yasir bin Affandi and DayangKu Nur Afiqah Fitri binti Pg Deris also attracted His Majesty. Both six year-old pupils from the Anggerek Desa Primary School presented the mind map and activity projects.
The focal field in improving education innovation, stressed on innovative as well as creative teaching and learning at the pre-school, primary and secondary levels including accomplishments in sports and achieving prestigious awards.
Three innovative projects by Politeknik Brunei students namely the Operating Room Patient's Reception Desk, Operating Room Light, and the Surgical Diathermy Machine were also displayed in the exhibition. The projects are the applications of 21st Century knowledge and skills in students' learning.
The 'Memacu Kemajuan Negara' or Spurring the Country's Development exhibition was divided into 3 main fields namely innovation, agriculture and Entrepreneurship. The combined exhibition by University Brunei Darussalam, UBD; University Technology Brunei, UTB; IBTE Agro-technology Campus, Politeknik Brunei and Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University showcased the innovative projects in both simulations and practical, various studies, entrepreneurship programmes and activities by several educational institutes in the country.
Before departing from the ICC, His Majesty witnessed the performance of gulingtangan by the combined students of UBD and UTB as well as students from the Special Education Unit of the Perdana Wazir Secondary School in Kuala Belait.
His Majesty's presence at the event was invaluable and would inspire and motivate teachers to continue improving their efforts and to work harder for the development of education in the country.
