Typhoon “Paeng” (international name “Trami”) has further intensified but continued to slow down on its way to Taiwan on Tuesday.

According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Ariel Rojas, Paeng has slightly changed course, from west to west-northwest, and is now on its way to Taiwan.

It was estimated at 720 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes before Tuesday noon, packing maximum sustained winds of 200 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 245 kph.

Paeng is expected to move slowly until Thursday and pick up speed by Friday. By Friday, PAGASA said the typhoon may bring light to at times moderate rains over Northern Luzon.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga Peninsula, Western Visayas, Palawan and Occidental Mindoro will likely experience light to at times moderate rains as early as Wednesday due to the extension of typhoon Paeng.

PAGASA advised sea vessels of risky sea travel over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon. It also reminded the public to remain on alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying or mountainous areas.

By Wednesday morning, Paeng will be 715 km east of Basco, Batanes, and by Thursday morning it will be at 705 km east of Basco, Batanes.

By Friday morning, Paeng is expected at 545 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes.

Rojas said Paeng will be outside the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday.
