A sergeant major, who was attached with the General Operations Force (GOF) of the Royal Malaysian Police, was killed together with his daughter in a road accident after the motorcycle they were traveling on collided with a Perodua Myvi along KKIP, Sepanggar here, early yesterday morning.

Ahmad Ali Towpa, 53, and his 24-year-old daughter, Shanur Amiera, were killed instantly due to severe head body injuries in the 6.30am incident.

It is learned that Ahmad was sending his daughter to work from Tuaran and heading to Sepanggar when the Perodua Myvi, driven by a 32-year-old man and coming from the opposite direction, allegedly swerved into the path of the Honda Wave motorcycle.

Due to the impact, both victims were thrown from the motorcycle and landed by the side of the road where both victims sustained head and body injuries.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the bodies had been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem and family members had been notified.

“Police have remanded the Perodua Myvi driver, who surrendered himself at the police station the same day, to facilitate investigation,” said Chandra.

Chandra also urged eyewitnesses to come forward to assist police in their investigation.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
