BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council in a sabda reminded athletes representing the country to the 3rd Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to always maintain their discipline and avoid prohibited materials as well as obey the Anti-Doping Act and regulations enforced by the World Anti-Doping Agency. His Royal Highness also advised the athletes to always be cautious and maintain their safety as well as health and empower their competitive spirits. The text of His Royal Highness' sabda was read by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports at the Flag Handover Ceremony to the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the Games. The contingent comprise 3 athletes and 4 officers.

In the sabda, His Royal Highness reminded the three athletes that although the participation is under Universality Places and the flight tickets as well as accommodation borne by the IOC, it is not a negligible matter.  It is instead a huge responsibility, as the athletes are the ones who will be carrying the national flag to the Youth Olympic Games.  His Royal Highness hopes that the athletes will perform their best while in Buenos Aires in order to protect Brunei Darussalam's good name.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in his speech, expressed confidence that the country's athletes will be able to perform the best even though the country's participation this year is based on 'Universality Places'.  Yang Berhormat also reminded the athletes that although they will be travelling to a distant country, the country's Malay, Islamic, Monarchy concept must be kept close at heart.  Assimilate it and be proud of the unique Bruneian values at all times.  Yang Berhormat stressed for the athletes to hoist the Brunei Darussalam flag with pride and full honours while in Buenos Aires, and to remember that the country is proud of the young athletes and hopes for their success.

At the ceremony which took place at the Green Room, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, the Brunei Darussalam flag was handed over to Awang Faisal bin Yunus, Chef de Mission of the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the 3rd Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina 2018, which will start on the 6th until the 18th of October.  The country's athletes will participate in two events namely athletics and swimming.  The athletics event is participated by Dayang Nurul Amirah binti Karim while Awang Nur Haziq Samil and Dayang Ashley Xin Rou Chai will take part in the swimming event.  The national contingent will depart for Buenos Aires, Argentina this Wednesday.
