Informal ASEAN-Australia Breakfast Summit

​Yesterday morning, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Informal ASEAN-Australia Breakfast Summit; the 21st ASEAN-China Summit; the 20th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit; and a Working Lunch hosted by His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, which was held at the Suntec Convention Centre.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam firstly attended the Informal ASEAN-Australia Breakfast Summit. Before the Breakfast Summit, His Majesty firstly joined the leaders of ASEAN and the Prime Minister of Australia for group photo session.
The Summit began with the Welcoming Remarks by His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore as the Chairman of ASEAN, who welcomed the Prime Minister of Australia.
His Excellency the Chairman of ASEAN then invited His Excellency Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia to deliver his statement. His Excellency the Chairman of ASEAN also invited His Excellency Tun Doctor Mahathir bin Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Australia relations to deliver the ASEAN common statement.
At the Breakfast Summit, His Majesty firstly welcomed His Excellency Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia to the Summit. His Majesty stated that the strong partnership between ASEAN and Australia has grown strong since 1974 and is especially enhanced by the comprehensive ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
His Majesty also welcomed the start of discussion to upgrade the Free Trade Agreement to ensure that it is relevant to the current and future practices and interests to boost economic growth, capacity building and networking activities that supports the development of private sectors especially for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
His Majesty then added to ensure a safe and secure environment for the people, Brunei Darussalam attaches importance to implementing the Memorandum of Understanding to Counter International Terrorism, especially on information sharing.
His Majesty also stated that ways to complement intelligence sharing initiatives should be explored to better address terrorism and violent extremism in the region. Overall, ASEAN appreciates Australia's continued support and looks forward to further strengthening ASEAN's Strategic Partnership.
