​His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office this morning attended the Premier Forum of the Knowledge Convention 2018. The Knowledge Convention was held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 72nd Birthday celebration. The ceremony took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was welcomed by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia DoCtor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein, Minister of Energy for Energy and Manpower and Industry as the Co-Chairmen of the Knowledge Convention 2018; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti as Advisor to the Knowledge Convention 2018 Steering Committee; and Dato Seri Paduka Awang Ahmaddin bin Haji Abd Rahman, Deputy Minister of Finance for Fiscal at the Ministry of Finance and Economy as the Chairman of the Knowledge Convention 2018 Premier Forum Working Committee.

Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah.

The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

The agriculture sector is an important sector aside from the oil and gas sector which is intended to contribute significantly to the country's economic growth, specifically the country's Gross Domestic Product. The Deputy Minister of Finance for Fiscal at the Ministry of Finance and Economy as the Chairman of the Knowledge Convention 2018 Premier Forum Working Committee in his welcoming speech among other matters touched on the achievement of the agriculture and agri-food sector in the last few years. In 2017, the output from this sector has increased by 91 percent to 3 hundred and 80 million dollars compared to only 2 hundred million in 2007. Output from this sector is also expected to increase in 2020. This target is expected in order to uphold His Majesty's titah during the Special Cabinet Ministers Meeting on the 7th of February this year, which is to give attention and priority to the agriculture sector as it is a sector that will determined the survivability as an independent race and nation.

 The Premier Forum, which was chaired by Doctor Awang Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Ra'es of the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, discussed the theme of this year's Knowledge Convention which is 'Agriculture Sector: Survivability of Race and Nation'. Explaining the agriculture sector through Islam's perspective, Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, Deputy State Mufti said that the sector is an entrepreneurship field which can generate income and sustenance not only to the farmers, but also to the country.

 Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Ishak, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism meanwhile touched on the development of the country's agriculture sector. According to Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman, the value from agriculture production in 1998 which covers local produce of vegetables, fruits, eggs, livestock, chicken eggs, goats, rice and others, amounted to 92 point 64 million dollars and after 20 years, the value from agriculture has increased to 379 point 65 million dollars.

 Meanwhile, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Doktor Mohammad Roff bin Mohd Noor, Director General of the Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute, MARDI, shared on the development of the agriculture sector in Malaysia, focusing on the role of research and development.

 Awang Haji Muliadi bin Moksin, Manager of Syarikat Marsya Farm in sharing his experience in the field of agriculture said venturing the agriculture field has given him a satisfaction when he is able to provide halal food to the customers.

Doa selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

 This year's Knowledge Convention Premier Forum is jointly organised by the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Energy for Energy and Manpower and Industry.

Before leaving, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince signed a commemorative parchment. The Premier Forum's theme -- 'Agriculture Sector: Survivability of Race and Nation' -- is in line with His Majesty's aspirations of intensifying efforts for economic development through main fields such as agriculture and fisheries. This sector is given priority as it will determine the Survivability of the Race and Nation.
