Over the recent years, Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China have taken many steps forward in strengthening the bilateral cooperation. Such as, explained the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between both countries on the establishment of a Joint Steering Committee which has puts in place a mechanism for regular consultations at the Ministerial level. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah explained the matter at the Swearing-in ceremony for the Brunei-China One Belt One Road Association, OBOR.
Yang Berhormat said in relation to the Swearing-in ceremony, both countries have been and will continue to work closely to jointly promote cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative, especially on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting Cooperation within the Framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative.
Her Excellency Yang Jian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam said the establishment of the Association represents another effort of the private business community in Brunei to expand economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
29 new committee members of OBOR were sworn in at the ceremony witnessed by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the country.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Hj Mohd Amin Liew and Her Excellency Yang Jian then submitted an appointment letter to 10 honorary advisors of OBOR, appointed for 3 years from 2019 until 2021.
The ceremony proceeded with the signing of the co-operation agreements and MOU with 5 companies and TWO universities from The Republic of China. The signing was witnessed by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the country. The agreement will establish a platform to foster Brunei-China economic and trade investment and to implement strategies to encourage and promote investment as set out by the Government of His Majesty.
